BRAND STORY
A century ago, Andrée Jardin’s future husband, Georges Renée Julio, started out as an apprentice brush maker in Nantes. In 1947, he opened his own factory and the adventure began..
Over the years the brush factory supplied more and more industrial clients, and from father to son, the company became specialised in tailor-made brushes.
With the arrival of plastic and the beginning of globalization, what used to be called « Parisian goods » started to lose their value: hair brushes, toilet brushes, toothbrushes, make-up brushes, cloth brushes, cleaning brushes and brooms…To such a point that today it is still difficult to find an authentic broom, handbrush, or, even more, a real dust brush.
Determined to refute this sad state of affairs, Jean-Baptiste and François-Marie, Andrée’s grandchildren, reissued the mythical brushes with French beechwood frames : Real brooms that last !
In 2012 the two brothers created the Andrée Jardin© brand (named after their grandmother) and have been producing beautifully crafted brushes ever since, working with designers to offer you natural, long-lasting household accessories. Most importantly, they want to work only with the finest French craftsmen. They are the true guardians of unique and outstanding traditions.
Buying an Andrée Jardin brush is a way to support a manufacturer who ensures the preservation of French know-how.
Brosserie Julio (manufacturer of the Andrée Jardin brand) carries on the century-old traditions of the brush industry : the craftsmanship necessary to work with hog bristles is based on the experience of several generations, and nothing replaces human dexterity, the only way to obtain such an exclusive quality.
The bristles are made of natural materials, namely white hog bristle, horsehair or plant fibres.
For these reasons, Brosserie Julio carries the label EPV (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant). This is a French government award, given to companies demonstrating excellent craftsmanship and industrial know-how.Our production methods, in small batches, remain artisanal even today. We are convinced this is the best way to fight against Asian importation and the ‘throw away’ trend of wipes and disposable systems.
Simplicity, Quality, Sustainability : The DNA of our label!
