Handmade & Forged in Laguiole
The original Forge de Laguiole® knives are fully handcrafted in-house, at their forge and workshops in the village of Laguiole, France, where it all begun in 1829. each knife is the result of their extraordinary materials combination, the know-how of their Master knife-smiths with the precision of a goldsmith. Forge de Laguiole® knives, for their unequaled quality, their longevity and their exceptional cutting edge, have become the reference signature of the greatest Chefs' tables all around the world, as well as of enthusiasts of sharp beautiful knives.
The blades are made from the high-quality French T12 steel, which is exclusively produced for Forge de Laguiole®. They are forged to 1000°C in their workshops forge in Laguiole, France.
The bee, a Napoleonic imperial symbol says the legend, is carved with a file and an engraver and most of Forge de Laguiole steak knives feature the traditional shepherd's cross on the handle. The shepherds used to plant the blade of their knife in their bread. As the knife stood up vertically it made the shape of a cross with the bread, which provided them with a focus for their prayer.
Laguiole Master Cutlers know-how & Traditions
Model handle: Juniper wood (Juniperus oxycedrus) harvested in France. With its very pleasant cedar scent, the juniper wood adds a unique charm to those superb knives.
The precious wood handle is enhanced by two stainless steel bolsters forged and fixed on a metal liner which will be drilled and polished before the assembly of the knife. They help to protect the handle during daily use.
Satin or Shiny finish: from an aesthetic point of view, Forge de Laguiole experienced knife-smiths believe precious wood handles will be as beautifully and as equally enhanced with a satin (matte) or with a shiny (gloss polish) finish of the whole stainless steel structure (blade, bolsters, spring, bee...). It's a matter of personal choice and style. Choose the option you prefer.
Brand: Forge de Laguiole
Unique: No two knives are exactly the same. Each wood or horn is unique and has developed different shades and patterns during their living period. That's what makes traditional Laguiole knives unique. Your models will probably therefore have different shades than those on our photos. But we guarantee you they're all beautiful and Forge de Laguiole pays attention to add similar handles in one box.
Clean & Care: do not use dish-washer. Prolonged water contact will crack precious woods and horns. Hand-wash the blade with a sponge, hot water and detergent if needed. If the handle need to be cleaned, use a dry fabric to remove what must be removed.
